First Impressions of Hohle Fels

I recently met with Anna Friederike Potengowski in the Hohle Fels Cave in preparation for forthcoming series of projects. I am devising interactive installations and performances focusing on the first sculptures in Human form combined with the music of the oldest found instruments in the world. The work will include a sound installation using layers of mammoth, vulture and swan bone flutes. The goal is the project is to connect today’s audiences with early organised music from over 40,000 years ago. The dance and sound is inspired by the sensual art piece and artefact, “Venus vom Hohlefels,” a beautiful sculpture carved out from mammoth bone; the earliest known and dated carving of the human form.
